Considerately famous in Kaş region and as an ancient source of income, the story of carob tree started ages ago. From Antiphellos, which was the most important trading harbour of the era, carobs that were harvested at the villages of Kaş on August and September were sent to other cities by ships.

Our carob tree in our garden, of that we used to collect the fruits and we used to made molasse is now the main subject and beginning of a completely different story. Welcoming you at the entrance of our hotel, our ancient 250-year-old tree is actually the inspiration of the name of the hotel.

Named Carruba in Italian, the most important mistery of the carob is its seeds. Being always the exact same weight, carob seed was used for centuries by diamond traders. The term carat actually is originated from these carob seeds.

Carob can be planted and sprout even after a long drying period. This is due to the high dying rate of carob. It also don't absorb water when dried. That is why the final weight of the carob is fixed. With this feature this fruit was used in Ottaman era as a means of weighing. The weight unit which called “drachm” equals to 4 carobs. The Turkish idiom “two drachm one seed”, which is used to describe fashionably dressed people, is a reference to the weight of a golden coin.

From these, we took this quality and the fashionness, combined them with our ancient fisherman town's casuality and comfort and started our journey. Inspired by the unique nature of Kaş, we designed every corner of Carruba Hotel for you to feel the peace and comfort. We are welcoming you to hotel where the green, the blue, and the architecture meet.
